DLP Incompetent But Power Hungry
Thursday, 29 Jul 2010
Frightening Sign of the times from a Power hungry DLP

There was a time when the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow was leader of the Democratic Labour Party. In those days that Party took pride in this country being able to pay its way. But a lot has changed since then.

It would seem that this new incompetent DLP group prefers to walk the earth with a begging bowl – under the guise of promoting philanthropy and as a substitute to compensate for their incompetence in managing the economy.

Could you image the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow saying that he is ‘waiting to see’ what President Obama is doing in America or what the British Prime Minister is doing instead of providing the required leadership, locally?

Are we to believe the DLP that as Barbadians, we are no longer craftsmen of our fate? Have we now reached a point under DLP rule when an elected Government of Barbados is willing to surrender our sovereignty as well as this country’s duty to manage its economic destiny to others? Will DLP policies again carry a: “Made in Washington Label?’

In his “Mirror Image” speech, Mr. Barrow said: “The DLP has an image that the people of Barbados would be able to run their own affairs, to pay for the cost of running their own country…” Was that then?

Imagine! Leaders all over the world opted to introduce progressive policies in their respective counties to achieve the above but here in Barbados - Thompson preferred to ‘wait and see,’ while Stuart now has a remarkable plan to wish the Barbados economy out of recession.

The DLP manufactured a serious current account fiscal crisis in this country with no stabilization plan or policy in sight. In his recent Report, the Governor of the Central shows that for the first 5 months of this year, the Government spent $182.3 million more than it earned in revenue.

Why this is disturbing is that it is $62 million more than the deficit for the entire year of 2008 when we were already saying things were bad. While all of this is happening, faced with the same global conditions the DLP complains about, the Guyana economy continues to grow and never went into recession, while the US economy came out of recession in August 2009.

It is why Barbadians must guard their minds each time the DLP speaks - making lame excuses for its incompetence and inability to manage the economy.

Having placed a gag order on Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition from even purchasing time on CBC - you know that something is definitely wrong and that Barbadians must therefore be very afraid when the DLP, which promised freedom of information legislation and good governance, would now seek to treat any criticism of and opposition to its horrible incompetence - as an attempt to destabilise the Government.

But when the DLP apparently imposes a gag order on itself thereby preventing anyone from within its ranks from telling Barbadians how they intend to get this country out of recession – these are indeed frightening signs of the times.

With a poll it recently conducted said to be showing that more than 52% of the electorate would vote for the BLP if elections were called now, the above are indeed very serious and frightening signs from a desperate and incompetent Government that wants to hold on to state power and has therefore already sternly warned Barbadians to ‘stop bellyaching.’
