"Barbados Better Than Ever" launched
Saturday, 29 Dec 2007

A full printed record of the stewardship of the Barbados Labour Party Government is now in the hands of the media for the scrutiny of the entire country.

The document, launched at a Press conference at BLP headquarters on Roebuck Street, Saturday evening, has been titled Barbados — Better Than Ever, which according to Prime Minister Owen Arthur, appropriately describes the progress that has occurred since the party’s return to Government in 1994.

The “paperless” launch, which featured members of the Press receiving electronic versions of the 80-page full-colour magazine, the third issued by the party since taking the leadership of the country, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Senior Minister Dame Biller Miller and former party leader Sir Henry Forde.

Arthur note that while the achievements of the Government had been many, in circumstances that at times were far from easy, his Cabinet remained focussed on Job Number 1, the constant creation of new employment opportunities. The achievement of seven per cent unemployment, compared to the near 25 per cent that existed when the Dems left office, represent his most heart-warming success, Arthur added.

The Prime Minister also pointed to record growth in foreign exchange, billions of dollars in new investment, particularly in tourism, the revitalization of physical infrastructure and a comprehensive and effective programme of poverty eradication that had brought a new standard of living to thousands across the island.

Promise Keepers?
The DLP does not care that it is causing us economic hardship. It also seems disinterested that as Barbadians care about our jobs, income and financial security. We also care about our safety and whether we will be able to pay our mortgage, keep our jobs or be safe in our homes and communities. It is frightening that the level of crime has gone up since February this year.
